Your standard catch-22
I was going to say that I’m over NaBloPoMo, but then I realized that the very act of saying it in this venue undermined the statement. Therefore, I blog another day.
Saw the Mel Brown trio tonight, and, as always, enjoyed it…especially Mel Brown. What a fine jazz drummer.

Call me crazy…
…but is Santogold channeling the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on “LES Artistes” or what? The vocals are a bit different, but the vibe of the song is extremely Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If you ask me.

Wonderful soundtracks: 2046
This is a wonderful film, too. Wong Kar-Wai is a great director, and his films are always a feast for the eyes and ears. But this particular film has a far-beyond-ordinary soundtrack. I actually paused the film and ordered the soundtrack from Amazon when track 5 began to play.
For the uninitiated, Wong Kar-Wai is [...]

Verdi: blech
The Portland Opera has renewed their annual campaign to convince me to buy tickets. I took last season off because I was so disgusted with the 06-07 season (The Magic Flute is many things, but is should never, NEVER feel like a burlesque show). Apparently, 07-08 was better. A friend saw Aida and enjoyed it [...]

Got new glasses. Love. Them. Maybe I will feel like reading again.
At 22,000 miles, my already fuel-efficient car suddenly jumped up another 5/mpg. That is what I call awesome.
I had more of Zbigniew Preisner’s music than I knew, but it didn’t surprise me to realize that he contributed to the 2046 soundtrack.
It cracks me up [...]

California, Here I Come
This song, from The Secret Sessions disc 5, was the first Bill Evans tune I ever bought. Now my library counts over 400 Bill Evans tracks. A version from the Verve set just played, and I felt a strange sense of being in two separate times at once. Some music does that for me: it [...]

But it’s for a wedding
Vick and I were eating dinner when D got home tonight, and when he walked in the door, she looked up at him and said, “Haven’t we told you dinner is at seven sharp?” But it was too late. He was late for happy hour. And all the new clothes and shoes he [...]

A bit of everything
My notice has been given. I have started looking for my replacement. I have let my staff know. They all cried! :(
One last call to the people we contract with for tech support. Ah, escalation. Choice statements:
Of course I have written detailed installation instructions! It’s just that, since you guys cost $150 an hour and [...]

My musical ability tends more [...]
