Election turnout in Multnomah County…lagging?

I’ve been lurking around the Mult Co elections site lately, watching ballot return rates. I’m surprised that the daily turnout is quite a lot lower than in 2004.

It’s like learning a new language / Helps me catch up on my mime

Great line. Emusic has She Wants Revenge, it turns out.
It turns out that, tonight at least, when left to my own devices, the path of least resistance is to exfoliate, drink wine from a Moroccan tea glass, download from the newly refreshed Emusic quota, and do a dozen online-related (no)things at once.
A moment ago, I [...]

Stunning victory for Palin…

ALL five “angry Hillary supporters” who have gone Republican, undoubtedly because of mental health issues, appeared with Palin at a rally! Way to go “Shoots Wolves” Sarah! Yes, the crazies are behind you!

Helpful Wednesday tips

Need help deciding how to vote on Oregon ballot measures? Try the Defend Oregon voters guide. All kinds of organizations I like are represented in the opinions. That doesn’t change the fact that I dislike the fact that we allow measures on the ballot, but it does help make sure you don’t undervote, or vote [...]

Knitting and chemistry

I’m learning to knit! It’s truly hilarious, too. Mix my perfectionist tendencies with conflicting web tutorials, yarn, and needles, and what you get is me trying the same stitch, multiple ways, and being completely comfortable unraveling it all and starting again, at any moment. Words cannot describe the large, ungainly knitting movements my hands make. [...]

October innovations

Workaholism and stagnation: my enemies of the month. That and the dreary rain that come with fall in Oregon. Dr. M stayed with me for the past five weeks, and I’ve used that company to help jolt me out of my regular routine of working too, too much.

New! Now I watch some tv. It’s good [...]

The Oregonian endorses Obama

Here’s a choice excerpt from their editorial today:
Two particular issues, on presidential-level appointments, reinforce our endorsement.
In the first major choice made by any nominee, Obama showed considerably better judgment. His pick for running mate, Joe Biden, has an extensive background, especially in foreign policy, and the clear capacity to be a significant asset to an [...]

Straight from the mouth of a (former) conservative

William Buckley’s son, Christopher, on the current political situation:
Eight years of ‘conservative’ government has brought us a doubled national debt, ruinous expansion of entitlement programs, bridges to nowhere, poster boy Jack Abramoff and an ill-premised, ill-waged war conducted by politicians of breathtaking arrogance. As a sideshow, it brought us a truly obscene attempt at federal [...]

Stop trying to impose on my right to shoot wolves from a helicopter!

I’m starting to wonder if the McCain campaign chose Palin simply because they knew Tina Fey could play her perfectly. In last night’s Saturday Night Live, Queen Latifah sweetened the deal, playing VP debate moderator Gwen Ifill.
“We don’t know if this climate change, whose he what’s it, is man-made, or if it’s just a natural [...]

Let’s go to the Starbucks oracle, John

Folksy Sarah Palin tried a bit of Starbucks cup wisdom in California herself, but it didn’t quite work out:
I’m reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, ok? The quote of the day… It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State and UN ambassador. … Now she said it, I didn’t. She said, ‘There’s a place in [...]
