Work vignette: when “Do not disturb” gets ignored
I have a lot of meetings, and some of them, I run. Since we are spread around the world, nearly all meetings are conference calls, and a presenter will share their desktop via Live Meeting or Net Meeting so others can follow the presentation.
We also communicate a lot via an internal messenger. I set it [...]

Marriage is what bwings us together
One of my sisters got married on Saturday. My youngest sister. I was appalled when the minister introduced them as “Mr. and Mrs. Her Husband’s Name.” Since then, I have been calling her husband Mr. My Youngest Sister’s Name. Fucking ridiculous, as if a woman ceases to exist once she gets married. I know that [...]

It’s a brunch. That’s why there’s so much alcohol.
I’m having a pre-birthday brunch for my Best Roommate Ever tomorrow morning; there will be 12-15 of us, and most of the group are of the pretty hard-drinking variety. The menu is coming together a bit slowly, but so far, here’s what I have:
Drinks: coffee, mimosas (OJ and passionfruit), bloody marys, prolly greyhounds
Food: challah French [...]

I say tomato, tomato
We have baby tomatoes in the garden, but none are ready for eating yet. I couldn’t wait, so I picked up some organic tomatoes at New Seasons last night. For a mid-morning snack, I spread some lebneh on toast and topped with thin slices of tomatoes, sea salt, and freshly ground pepper. Yum!

Despite the fact that this is a stereotypical wafer-thin model, we were still [...]

Photos: Lavender in Laurelhurst
July 2008
Braved the streets of the Laurelhurst neighborhood in Portland last week, and came up with this photo. It’s the stereotypical lavender shot. Just trying to fit in with the tens of thousands of other Portlanders who took pretty much the same picture in the last few weeks.

Photos: McMenamins
July 2008
This particular McMenamins has an eclectic selection of light fixtures unrelated to Jerry Garcia. This photo is from the small bar on the side of the restaurant. Which McMenamins is it?

Wonderful soundtracks: 2046
This is a wonderful film, too. Wong Kar-Wai is a great director, and his films are always a feast for the eyes and ears. But this particular film has a far-beyond-ordinary soundtrack. I actually paused the film and ordered the soundtrack from Amazon when track 5 began to play.
For the uninitiated, Wong Kar-Wai is [...]
