Ok, so things have gotten better
I’m watching Brief Encounter and have stopped midway. The fainting, hysterical representation of women is a real impediment to my full enjoyment of this 1945 classic. Then again, if I were a housewife and had nothing else to look forward to besides cooking, mending, and child-rearing, I might swoon on occasion as well.
